IRS Tax Form 982 – Debt forgiveness form
This form is necessary if you go into foreclosure or short sale of a property, and the IRS gives you a 1099. The IRS has allowed this debt to not be charged as income if it was forgiven between the years of 2007-2012. Just use this form when doing your taxes.
